.tel - All You Need to Know
Author: EuropeanDomainCentre.tel is the newest top level domain. The Sunrise phase for trademark holders opened on the 2nd of Dec., so if you have a trademark then you are eligible. The less fortunate have to wait until February 2009.
So what is .tel and why should you register it? Here is a run down of the facts:
1. The .tel is a service that allows individuals and businesses alike to store and manage all their contact information and keywords directly in the DNS without the need to build, host or manage a website.
2. The value of a .tel domain lies with the ability to host personal (or corporate) contact information directly in the DNS, which can then be universally accessible. This stands in contrast to the typical use of the DNS for other TLDs, in which the DNS only provides a mapping between domain names and IP addresses.
3. The .tel enables you to protect your private data, allowing it to be seen only by people you authorize.
.tel is basically a global online directory where you can edit your contact data in real time. Here a user can find all the possible ways to contact you, whether it is via Skype, Messenger, email, tel/fax or post.
Furthermore your type of service or product will be listed, so users will be able to find you. You will provide the descriptive search terms you wish to be found under.
I expect .tel to be a reference address when searching for company contact data. Why bother looking through several search results at Google, when you can simply look up the URL?
If you have a trademark then don´t wait with your application. Only the first applicant will obtain the domain, and with 70 charters it is possible that someone else has the same trademark as you.
